Abstract

The human being is the bearer of endless emotions and reasonings; at the same time, he is capable of unimaginable acts by means of the will. Emotions, reasoning, and actions are expressed through the body. Mask and mirror are two elements that configure identity aspects of the human being. The objective of this work is to reflect on the capacity of the mask and the mirror as expressive elements within the pictorial genre of portraiture. Through the mask, the person can hide his identity, while the mirror only shows a subject that is both emitter and receiver of the gaze.
