Abstract

Early Childhood Intervention is a set of support for children at risk of developmental delay and their families, promoting child development and strengthening parenting competencies. Continuous training of professionals is essential to ensure family-centred and evidence-based practices. The study qualitatively analysed the responses of 19 professionals from local ECI teams in Portugal to a questionnaire based on the Initial Practice Based Professional Preparation Standards for Early Interventionists. Ten codes were identified in four key areas: Coordination and Collaboration, Family-Centred Practices, Evidence-Based Practices and Professionalism and Ethics. The results indicate that collaboration, family participation, and professional ethics were the most highlighted competencies, suggesting improvements in coordination and continuous improvement of practices. Limitations include the low response rate, and future studies with face-to-face observation are recommended to increase representativeness.
