Abstract

The article analyses the historical trajectory of institutional care in Brazil, highlighting the evolution from a welfare-based approach to the current perspective of comprehensive protection and rights. The research investigates a care institution in Florianópolis, with the aim of verifying how the rights and access to formal and non-formal education of children and adolescents are guaranteed by legislation and the institution's practices. The methodology is qualitative, bibliographic, and documentary in nature, using national and international sources, as well as the institution's own guiding documents. Preliminary results showed that the entity has promoted and guaranteed access to education, as provided for in its projects and practices. In conclusion, the article highlighted the importance of analysing the daily practices of institutions to support public policies and ensure that children and adolescents in vulnerable situations have access to education and live with dignity, as subjects of rights.
