Abstract

This article examines a series of films (from a global perspective) that explore the manipulation of religious narratives surrounding female bodies in terms of reproduction (abortions, pregnancies), violence (rape and femicide), and a deficient imagination often attributed to women. It highlights the connection between religion and capitalism. Furthermore, much of contemporary horror cinema exposes the occupation of female bodies by divine or demonic forces and rejects the partial consent imposed on them, especially when women's agency, subjectivity, and desires have been curtailed. Films such as La Inmaculada emerge as iconoclastic works that seek to restore female agency.
