Other materialities and ruinous existentialism in The hour of the star by Clarice Lispector

The general objective of this article is to analyze other materialities and philosophical dimensions in The hour of the star by Clarice Lispector. The materialities addressed are human waste (Bauman, 2005) and the sound matter of radio (Tacchi, 2001) and, on the other hand, the fall/ruin and the one as other existential hermeneutic realms (Heidegger 1997, 2002). All of the above (in)directly conditions the lives and spaces of the characters, in particular of Macabéa. The analysis reveals that the residual status of the main character molds her daily life and activities. The use of the radio in the domestic space fulfills a relevant function both in its degree of (in)sociability and at an existential level, increasing the inauthentic/ruinous life led by the protagonist.
