Abstract

This work aims to present the Mudamente project, which consists of a mentoring initiative designed to develop student autonomy and protagonism. Theoretically the project draws on project-based learning, according to Bender (2000), as well as on the basic principles of active methodologies in the perspective of Bransford et al. (2000) and Pilati (2017), namely, (i) the valorization of students’ previous knowledge, (ii) the investigation of in-depth knowledge about the topics covered, and (iii) the development of metacognition skills. Based on these assumptions, students develop activities aimed at improving the school community through meetings, interviews, podcasts and other audiovisual materials. The topics covered are chosen based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN) 2030 agenda. The Mudamente project can be regarded as an effective tool for the development of extracurricular content in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, as it has allowed many students to have access to knowledge through social networks and video sharing platforms, enabling the continuity of studies even in the context of social isolation.
