Heritage education in pandemic times: challenges of the book "Ceilândia, minha quebrada é maior que o mundo"

Abstract

The book Ceilândia, minha quebrada é maior que o mundo¹ was released in 2020 by the Federal District Superintendency of Iphan. The work is the second volume of the Patrimônio para jovens collection, whose objective is to bring heritage education content to the local educational community. The production process started with the application of the participative inventories tool and, later, with the dialogue between authors, organizers and illustrators. The process goal was to systematize and publicize several cultural references of the city that are considered as cultural heritage by the residents themselves. The book involved the participation of 250 people. During the book development, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the organization team to change communication strategies among all participants. However, the main challenges arose when the book was ready: how to honor the work of several authors with virtual events, and structure remote teaching practices that contemplate the urban heritage and the experience in the city? We have tried to circumvent these issues, in part, based on: (i) the book's structure designed for a young audience and integrated with the use of social networks, and (ii) the creation of attached materials that facilitate the work of teachers.
