Mapping the risks of burning and fires in the Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba - MG (Brazil)
Keywords:
wildfires, burns, analytic hierarchy process, geotechnologiesAbstract
From 2002 to 2016, approximately 423 million hectares of the Earth's surface burned annually. However, four factors should associate the annual increase in the number of records with burned and burned areas: i) human activities; ii) characteristic of the combustible material; iii) fire management activities; iv) changes in land use and climate. In this sense, this becomes one of the main topics to be discussed, being little or insufficiently addressed in the Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba region, in the state of Minas Gerais. Therefore, this research had the general objective of proposing a mapping for the risks of fires and fires in the period from 2017 to 2021, in the mesoregion of Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba in the state of Minas Gerais, based on the multi-criteria spatial analysis model, aiming to contribute to a better knowledge of occurrences, as well as improving risk management, through the identification of these areas. The results indicate that, during the drought period, the risk increased from 7.8% (2018) to 30.7% (2021) of the area classified as very high risk. It appears that these areas were at low altitudes, close to highways, with low slope, and whose land use was identified as pastures. Therefore, it is believed that all physical and anthropogenic variables had significant importance in expressing this high percentage. As for the rainy season, the medium- and high-risk classes remained almost the same proportion, varying from one year to the next. However, the percentage did not exceed 50% in both classes.
