The current Portuguese legal framework regarding the promotion and protection of children and youth is set out in the Law for the Protection of Children and Young People in Danger, approved by Law n.º 147/99, of 1 of September, which sought to transpose internally a new vision and perception of the children and young people and a different model of intervention regarding them and their family, in harmony with the principles enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In the present work, we will seek to analyze the principles that, in light of the Law for the Protection of Children and Young People in Danger, now guide the actions of entities with legitimacy to intervene with children and young people in danger under the age of eighteen years old, located or resident in Portuguese territory, with a view to establishing limits to their intervention and ensuring respect for an important set of rights and procedural guarantees of the children and young people, as well as their parents, legal representative or their guardians.
