Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

All manuscripts submitted to EP&S must follow the instructions described in this document. Please review the following guidelines before submitting a manuscript.  Papers that do not follow these rules will not be accepted.  

1. General information

a. EP&S accepts manuscripts in either English, Portuguese, or Spanish. 

b. The manuscript must not include any identifying information about the authors. Reference or citation to the authors' previous work in the text's body must be blanked out. If the manuscript is accepted for publication, the author(s) will be asked to provide a final version in pdf format, identifying information, affiliation, email address, and omitted references. 

c. Manuscripts submitted for publication must be original and unpublished, in full or in part, either in printed or electronic form.

d. Manuscripts should not exceed 10,000 words (including notes and references). 

e. Submissions are accepted in one of the following formats: .doc/.docx (Microsoft Word), OpenOffice or RTF.

 

2. Formatting instructions 

2.1. Title
a. Title of the manuscript:  Times New Roman 14,  bold, aligned to the left, and followed by its translation.

b. Section and subsection headings: Times New Roman 12, bold. Avoid using more than two levels of headings. Sections should follow the Arabic numerals, starting with zero in the introduction. The reference section should not be numbered.

2.2. Abstract and Keywords

a. The abstract should be no longer than 150 words.

b. The abstract should be placed under the title, with 1 cm indentation from the left and right margins. It should be constituted of a single paragraph and have no heading (e.g. "summary," "abstract"). 

c. The maximum number of keywords is 6.

d. Title, abstract, and keywords must be in the same language of the paper. EP&S requires authors also to provide a translation of these items in English and Portuguese for indexing purposes.

2.3. Text

a. Pages should be numbered.

b. Body of the text: 
• Font: Times New Roman
• Size: 12
• Spacing: 12 pt
• Alignment: Justified
• Indent paragraphs: 1 cm
• Top and left Margin: 3 cm
• Bottom and right margin: 2cm

2.4. Images

a. All images, including tables and equations displayed as images, must be included in the text with a reference. Images should be identified with consecutive numbering and title, appearing below the image (i.e., Figure 1. Title).

b. Images in black and white render the best results; colored images should be avoided.

2.5 Notes

a. Notes should be in Times New Roman 8, with 10 pt spacing and will appear as footnotes. 

b. Footnote number in the text should be placed after the punctuation mark.

c. References to the other pages or sections of the same manuscript must be expressed by italicized Latin expressions supra or infra. 

2.6. Quotations

a. Quotations up to three lines can be incorporated in the text between quotation marks. (Use the following signs for quotations: "..."; and in the case of a quotation with quotes within quotes: "... '...' ...".)

b. Longer quotations will use Times New Roman 10 and without quotation marks, stay aligned on the left with a paragraph indentation. Interpolations are identified with square brackets []. Omissions are indicated by ellipsis in parentheses (...). All quotations should display the pages of the original text quoted.

c. Quotations reported as epigraphs should be in italics, Times New Roman 10, and include the author's name. The title of the work cited is optional. 

 

2.7. References

Manuscripts submitted to the journal should the APA citation style, 7th edition. A citation manual is available at https://kildekompasset.no/en/referencing-styles/apa-7th/

Original Articles

This section is open to all authors. Submissions to this section must be based on original research and will be subjected to double-blind peer review.
