About the Journal

Journal UMinho Science (JUS) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal exclusively run by students at the Science School (ECUM) of the University of Minho, continuously published, in digital format, and with original articles written in English. Publication in JUS is not for profit, any publication is open access, thus, will not be subject to any publication fee, and the articles will be accessible to readers free of charge. JUS members exclusively perform volunteer work, not being remunerated for their duties in the magazine.

The goals of JUS magazine are to promote and disseminate scientific research of University of Minho students and teachers, as well as researchers outside the University of Minho, in the departments of biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and earth sciences. We aim to share science with the national and international scientific community, to the general public, and to provide scientific editorial activity in Science School (ECUM) as a way of creating a scientific community in this school and integrating students into current public practices.

JUS is presented with two essential missions: serving scientists through the publication of significant advances in any branch of science and providing a forum for the dissemination and discussion of news and science-related issues.

 

Evaluation process

The Editorial team will analyze aspects such as scope, presentation of the manuscript in accordance with the formatting norms, and compliance with mandatory items identified in the submission template.

The evaluation of articles is performed using the double-blind review by members of the Editorial Board and the Reviewers Board. The criteria adopted regards the quality of the work, relevance, formulation of objectives and clarity of writing, theoretical foundation, coherence and methodological precision, results and discussion of the facts observed in relation to what is described in literature, quality of tables and figures and originality.

The reviewers will make recommendations for the article and can include direct indications in the text of the reviewed article.

In case of disagreement between the indications made by the evaluators, a third reviewer will be included in the evaluation.

Authors will receive the opinion with specific dates to meet the requested corrections, or with the rejection of the article.

 

Periodicity

Journal UMinho Science of Science School at the University of Minho will have a continuous publication, resulting in two Volumes per year.

 

Open access policy

This is an open-access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author.
