GLQ – Gay, Lesbian and Queer Studies in Portugal

Abstract

The field of Gay, Lesbian and Queer Studies (GLQS) is formally non-existent in the Portuguese Higher Education System. Its acceptance and recognition is still in its “activist” stage and is faced by strong misunderstandings both at the institutional and epistemic level, countering the growth in the number of authors that engage in it, with an exponential increase in the number of publications, master’s and doctorate theses and the students demand in what concerns curricula at the level of postgraduate training, namely in the area of Women’s, Gender and Feminist Studies, with which they are invariably associated
