What is human trafficking? Notes for a critical sociology
Keywords:
human trafficking, labour exploitation, migration, critical sociologyAbstract
The challenges posed by the idea of human trafficking are as old as concerns about the problem. This article explores some of the limits of dominant conceptualisations of trafficking and the contribution of empirical and critical studies on trafficking and current counter-trafficking agendas. The conclusion warns of the risks of an uncritical sociology serving apolitical agendas and emphasises the need for an alternative sociology of trafficking.
