Abstract

Astor Piazzolla left us a peculiar work. His musical style combines the elements of Argentine tango with those of classical music and American jazz, characteristic of the 50s and 70s of the 20th century. This research focuses on a collection of six studies originally written for solo flute in 1987, named by Astor Piazzolla Tango-Études. In that same year he performed two concerts in Portugal which deserve to be remembered in the centenary of his birth. The context and impact they had at that time in the cities of Lisbon and Porto, where they took place, is also considered.
