As two distinct parameters, tense and aspect can be encoded in different forms between different human languages, as well as the underlying internal relations between these two categories. This articlepresents a descriptiveanalysis of the time-aspect systemsin European Portuguese (EP) and Mandarin Chinese, aiming to detect some differences and similarities betweentwo languages in this regard. The study shows that although existseveral notable differences, there arestillsome similarities between the EPand Mandarin Chinese regardingto how temporal and aspectualinformation isconveyed, especiallythe use of adverbial adjuncts and theexpression of perfectivityand imperfectivityaspect.
