"A Gramática das Criancinhas" and "A Gramática no País das Formigas": An editing project

Abstract

The year 1921 marks the publication of the first edition of A Gramática das Criancinhas, by Virgínia Faria Gersão, a teacher deeply concerned and committed to children's learning. Therefore, she dedicated herself to creating teaching materials to better achieve this goal. This grammar had a second edition in 1932 and was later revised and updated with the aim of being published in an entirely different format. Thus, between 1954 and 1958, the adaptation of this grammar was published in the magazine Os Nossos Filhos under the title A Gramática no País das Formigas. With the goal of preserving, disseminating and also learning about the differences between these two texts published in two completely different formats, the project to edit this grammatical text emerged. In this article, we aim to introduce this project, starting by presenting the texts. Subsequently, we outline the editorial process, and, finally, we highlight some differences that stand out between the two versions of the grammar.
