Thematic issue which seeks to present studies aimed at understanding the forces at work in regional development, as well as the social and environmental impacts derived from these actions, in both urban and rural environments. The aim is to understand, in the light of modern theories, both the historical approach to the process of occupying urban and rural territories, as well as future trends on a short, medium and long time scale.
