The Portrait Talks cycle, bringing together different approaches from the fields of Art and Literature on the subject of portrait representation in an interdisciplinary, comparative and transnational perspective, integrated a group of 10 speakers who produced, throughout 2021, the following lectures :

  • 28 January 2021 (5:00-7:00 pm): Pedro Flor, ‘When is a portrait not a portrait’: Practices in the History of Art and problems around a concept (moderation: Bruno Marques) .
  • 24 February 2021 (5:00-7:00 pm): Paula Morão, Self-representation in Literature: Cases and Frontiers (moderation: Eunice Ribeiro).
  • 24 March 2021(5:00-7:00 pm): Fernando António Baptista Pereira, Francisco de Holanda and the Portrait: Theories and Practices (moderation: Bruno Marques) .
  • 27 April 2021 (5:00-7:00 pm): Daniel Rodrigues, Portraits of desire: Poetry and sexualities (moderation: Eunice Ribeiro).
  • 26 May 2021 (5:30-7:30 pm): Joana Baião, Portraits of women, representations of the people: the ‘Marias’ of Graça Morais (moderation: Bruno Marques).
  • 6 July 2021 (5:00-7:00 pm): Carlos Reis, “Snapshots of happiness”: ethics and aesthetics of the 19th century portrait (moderation: Eunice Ribeiro).
  • 22 September 2021 (5:00-7:00 pm): Xaquín Núñez Sabarís, Heisenberg (Breaking Dead) or the Postmodern Prometheus (moderation: Eunice Ribeiro).
  • 27 October 2021 (5:00-7:00 pm): Emília Ferreira, “Self-portrait in red, 1966” (moderation: Bruno Marques).
  • 29 November 2021 (5:30-7:00 pm): Daniel Tavares, Impressions: Notes for the contemplation of the last face (moderation: Eunice Ribeiro).
  • 15 December 2021 (5:00-7:00 pm): Madalena Miranda , Digital Self-Portraits: Self-portrait as a job interview (moderation: Bruno Marques).
